Solution-Focused Brief Therapy
You already have more strengths than you realize. Solution-Focused Therapy helps you identify what's working, build on it, and move toward the future you want without dwelling endlessly in the past.
At Evluni, we offer Solution-Focused Therapy In Beacon Hill Calgary NW available for in person and virtual sessions
What makes solution focused therapy different?
Most people come to therapy expecting to spend a lot of time going over what went wrong in the past, the patterns, the why. And sometimes that's exactly the right approach. But Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) takes a different road. Instead of spending most of your sessions analyzing the problem, it asks what you want your life to look like instead, and then focuses on getting you there.
SFBT is built on something that sounds simple but is actually quite profound. You already have strengths, coping skills, and past successes that are relevant to whatever you're facing right now. The therapist's job isn't to “fix” you, it's to help you notice what you already do well and build on it.
This approach tends to be shorter than many others, which a lot of people find encouraging. And because it's so focused on your own agency and resourcefulness, many clients walk away feeling genuinely empowered as they don’t just better, but also more capable.

Frequently asked questions
-
Not at all. Your experiences are valid and your therapist will absolutely listen. SFBT just doesn't camp out in the problem indefinitely. You'll feel heard, and then the conversation gradually shifts toward what you want instead, which tends to feel a lot more energizing.
-
It's a fair concern, but the research says otherwise. SFBT has been used effectively for serious mental health challenges, crisis situations, trauma recovery, and addiction. If deeper work is needed, your therapist will talk openly with you about integrating other approaches.
-
Not at all. It’s completely okay if you’re unsure about your goals at first. Part of the process is helping you clarify what you want to be different and what a better future could look like. Your therapist will work with you to shape goals that feel meaningful and achievable for you.
